A few weeks ago, we were honored to be featured on Hello Rose City!
During the segment, FinAbility Executive Director, Stacy Sawin, highlighted the vital role of financial empowerment in supporting survivors of domestic abuse. She also shared insights into our six programs that help survivors build financial autonomy—along with an exciting look at our new Savings Matching Program, launching in 2025!
Our Savings Matching Program is a financial lifeline for survivors at high risk of returning to their abusers due to financial instability. This groundbreaking program provides participants with a $500 savings match and personalized, trauma-informed financial mentorship from trained specialists. It is our hope that this program will provide not just funds, but the knowledge and confidence to forge a path to economic independence.
To truly understand how important building financial security is for survivors, Sawin asks: “could you rebuild your life with just $250? On average that's how much money survivors of domestic abuse have access to when they leave. And it's not just a few people. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men experience domestic violence, and 99% are also experiencing financial abuse. Imagine not having access to your home, car, and bank accounts. Maybe you have an income but all of it's going to that abusive partner. It can be challenging to not just leave but then rebuild their entire life"
A heartfelt thank you to OnPoint Community Credit Union and KGW-TV for amplifying our mission to empower survivors. At Finability, we rely on the strength of community collaboration to drive meaningful change. With your support, we are making strides toward a world where everyone can achieve economic independence and autonomy.
